This online activity allows students to explore various numerical patterns by identifying a "mystery operation" presented by the activity.

The function machine is a virtual manipulative designed to teach the concept of a function through experimentation with different functions. The student drags a number into the function machine and observes the output after the machine processes the number. This information is then used to infer what numbers will complete the table of values. If an incorrect entry is made into the table, an error message will be generated.
