The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) The national professional organization for teachers of English provides information and articles about current trends in the teaching of English. It is also an important resource for publications about teaching language arts.

The National Research Center on English Learning and Achievement http://cela.albany.edu/
The National Research Center on English Learning (CELA) This site provides current information on K- 12 literacy issues. The information is generated from research conducted by The School of Education,
University of Albany
. This site also offers schools and school districts the opportunity to participate in research projects.

International Reading Association (IRA) http://www.reading.org/  
The national professional organization for teachers of reading provides information and articles about current trends in the teaching of reading. It is also an important resource for publications about reading K-12.

National Institute for Literacy http://www.nifl.gov/ 
The National Institute for Literacy, a federal agency, provides leadership on literacy issues, including the improvement of reading instruction for children, youth, and adults. In consultation with the U.S. Departments of Education, Labor, and Health and Human Services, the Institute serves as a national resource on current, comprehensive literacy research, practice, and policy.

The Internet Public Library's home page has links to other resources for parents, teachers and children. Some of these links include critical and biographical information about authors. Other links contain full text children's literature. The site contains many more worthwhile links.

Reading is Fundamental http://www.rif.org/
Founded in 1966, RIF is the oldest and largest children's and family nonprofit literacy organization in the US. RIF ’s highest priority is reaching underserved children from birth to age 8. Through community volunteers in every state and U.S. territory, RIF provides 4.5 million children with 16 million new, free books and literacy resources each year.

A national multimedia project offering information and resources on how young kids learn to read, why so many struggle, and how caring adults can help. The project is comprised of PBS television programs, available on videotape and DVD; online services, including the web sites ReadingRockets.org and ColorinColorado.org; and professional development
opportunities. 

Center for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement http://www.ciera.org/
The Center for the improvement of Early Reading Achievement (CIERA) is a national center for research on early reading, representing a consortium of educators from five universities (the Univ. of Michigan and Michigan State Univ., with the Univ. of Southern California, the Univ. of Minnesota, and the Univ. of Georgia); teacher educators; teachers; publishers of texts, tests, and technology; professional organizations; and schools and school districts across the United States. CIERA is supported under the Educational Research and Development Centers Program as administered by the Office of Educational Research and Improvement, U.S. Department of Education.

CyberGuides http://www.sdcoe.k12.ca.us/score/cyberguide.html 
CyberGuides are supplementary, standards-based, web-delivered units of instruction centered on core works of literature. Each CyberGuide contains a student and teacher edition, standards, a task and a process by which it may be completed, teacher-selected web sites and a rubric, based on California Language Arts Content Standards. In the guides, the magenta text indicates the language (or context-appropriate equivalent to the language) of the content standards.
