This year PCS will be traveling to North and South Korea. These two
countries are often in today's news and our nation's history is inexticably
linked with that of Korea. Our history involves the Korean War which
occurred after a 37 year occupation of Korea by Japan during which time Koreans
were forbidden to use the Korean alphabet or language. Even their names
were required to be translated into Japanese. But Korean culture survived
the onslaught. This year our students will find out why Koreans call the Sea of
Japan by its original name, The East Sea, and the South China Sea is known as
the West Sea. How much can you learn about this country which is split
into two parts, one, a thriving capitalist economy, the other a brutal and
paranoid dictatorship. And why would the New York Philharmonic Symphony
Orchestra seize the opportunity to be the first Westerners in fifty years to
perform in North Korea?

Would you Like to Be a
Docent?
|
Docents are those people in museums who
explain what you are seeing as you walk through the galleries. Here at
PCS, our docents visit classrooms during Cultural Arts Week, sharing
stories, crafts and other presentations about our country of choice with
the students.
If you:
* Like to learn about other cultures
* Enjoy watching kids learn
* Like to read stories and do crafts
with students.
* Would like to help but need an idea
for your presentation
....then you should call or e-mail Sally Rogers to
schedule your visit during cultural arts week (928-2718 or rogers@pomfret.ctschool.net).
Would you like to help but need an idea for the presentation?
