Dr. Seuss Follow-up:

If you and your child would like to recreate the substance we made last Thurs. and Fri., try this website: http://www.instructables.com/id/Oobleck/

Bartholomew and the Oobleck is a Dr. Seuss story about a gooey substance that fell from the sky.  Oobleck is a substance that acts like both a solid and a liquid.  It can be poured and it can take-on the shape of the container, just like other liquids.  However, oobleck takes-on the form of a solid when a force is acting upon it.

Thank you to everyone who helped make “Game Mart” such a success at the Mini Mall!  Parents helped by baking healthy goodies, and some of you also volunteered your time to work with the children during the afternoons when Mini Mall was in full-swing.  Thanks for your help!

The students are learning how much money was made (gross profit), and then they will need to realize the expenses to be paid in order to determine the net profit.  Please talk with your children (until Wed.) about how we might use this profit.  We will spend it in 3 ways: for the class as a whole, for themselves as individuals, and for a charity (people or animals in need).

2nd grade teachers are collecting items for a “Bathroom Accessories Basket.”  This basket will be raffled at the Pasta Supper on Marcy 13th.  It is a fundraiser for the 8th grade class trip to Washington D.C.   Please bring-in items by Wed., March 10th.

Telling Time

Students are learning to use the hands on an analog clock to tell time.  They are experiencing the “feel” of one minute, using estimations to predict how often they can do some activity in one minute.  We are also discussing how to tell time by the hour, half hour, quarter hours, and five minute intervals.  Students should then be able to represent this as a digital time, too.  Please practice at home with them.  Thanks!
