Welcome to my cyber-home. My name is Michael Galligan. I am currently in my 12th year teaching at Pomfret Community School in Pomfret Center, CT. The school is a PreK-8 school with an enrollment of around 550 students. If there is a great place to teach - this is it! I had the pleasure of teaching on the 7th Grade Team for my first eight years at PCS but "moved up" to Eighth Grade several years ago. I am currently teaching with Mrs. Zdanys, Mrs. Lehto and Mrs. Lucas (as well as a great group of "specials" teachers). We are currently responsible for 63 students. Subjects that I teach are social studies (U.S. History - Reconstruction through the present-day), Math (Pre-Algebra), and English.
A little about my background - I attended another Pre-K - 8 school (Lisbon Central School - in Lisbon, CT), went on to Norwich Free Academy for high school, and I attended Providence College where I graduated in 1996 with a B.A. in Political Science and a History minor. Following graduation, I attended the University of Connecticut's Survey Research program for a semester. Though a great program, I realized that something was lacking and I decided to leave UCONN and pursue a career in education - where everyday is a new and exciting adventure. I received my M.A.T. from Sacred Heart University in 1998. (Oh yea, I almost forgot, during the winter after leaving UCONN and starting at Sacred Heart, I was able to spend 43 days at Killington, VT honing my ski skills). I have since earned my Connecticut Intermediate Administrator's Certificate through Sacred Heart Universtiy.
My interests include most all sports and I had the opportunity to coach girls soccer at PCS for 9 years (8 years as the "head coach") and Basketball for 7 years where I handled the Varsity Girls Team coaching responsibilities. I follow the Boston sports teams - Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Patriots as well as the New York Giants. Though I enjoy Pro sports, I love college basketball - especially the Providence College Friars. Though it is difficult being in the heart of "Husky Country," I try to keep the PC banner flying high (GO FRIARS!). Yes, I know it seems like I live for sports, however, I read extensively (both fiction and non-fiction) and collect music of a variety of genres. For my other responsibilities at PCS, I also serve as Co-advisor of the 8th Grade Class with Mrs. Mansell and serve on a number of committees.
