Students will need several sharp pencils available for daily use in math classes.  All math class work and homework is to be completed in pencil.

Students who are absent are expected to check in with their teachers to complete missing assignments.

If a student is absent, they should call a friend to find out what happened in school that day and what homework was assigned.  Work will not be sent home via the office.

Our physical education classes are on ____________ and ______.  Students will need their gym clothes on these days.

Band classes are on Tuesday and Friday.  Instruments should be in school on those days and at home for practicing the rest of the week!

Seventh graders are not allowed to call home for forgotten items.  Please plan ahead.

MATH

OUR MATHEMATICAL GOALS FOR THIS YEAR ARE:

  Understanding the mathematics we do

  Cooperating and respecting each other

Being open to new ideas and new approaches

  Explaining mathematical ideas clearly

  Thinking visually

  Reasoning and thinking about problems

Having self -confidence and self esteem

Being able to keep working on a problem

The text books we use are part of the Connected Mathematics series published by Prentice Hall.  We also use Math in the Middle Grades, Course Two published by Scott Foresman
We will start the year with a study of Spatial Visualization.:  This is an important aspect of geometry and geometric reasoning.  This unit develops students' spatial visualization skills through rich, hands-on problem solving situations.  A variety of tools - including cubes, building plans, isometric dot paper, and two dimensional cube models - are used in the activities.

There is  homework in math

every day except Fridays.

Daily review is the key to success.

We have a skills review for homework nightly, with a test on those skills on Friday.

Algebra 1

Students will begin with a brief review of pre-Algebra concepts and delve right into Algebra 1.   I have put together a series of web sites that will help students review basic Pre-Algebra skills to prepare for their 8th grade Algebra 1 classes.

Click here for a basic tutorial review of percents: http://www.math.com/school/subject1/lessons/S1U1L7DP.html.

This site introduces and simplifies graphing equations: http://mathforum.org/library/topics/graphing_equations/

Also click here for a review of basic geometry concepts:  http://www.aaamath.com/B/geo.htm, http://matti.usu.edu/nlvm/nav/vlibrary.html

Here is a site that provides some homework help with math from the Prentice Hall Math Series.  It reviews concepts and formulas as well as examples:  http://ph.infoplease.com/homework/
