Internet Search Tools and Homework Help

Ask for Kids http://www.askforkids.com/
Ask for Kids (formerly known as Ask Jeeves for Kids) is a fast, easy and kid-friendly way for kids to search online. Designed to be a fun destination site focused on learning and "edu-tainment," Ask for Kids uses natural-language technology that allows kids to ask questions and perform web searches, such as "When did Hawaii become a state?" or "What's it like to live in space?" or even "Convert 122 inches into feet" in the same way they would ask a parent, friend or teacher. Our service combines human editorial judgment, age-appropriate feature content and filtering technology to enable kids to find both relevant and befitting information on the Web.

Yahoo! Kids Study Zone http://kids.yahoo.com/learn
Designed for Web surfers ages 7 to 12. Sites selected by the YAHOO! Inc. staff. Categories include: News- Slideshows and information, Ask Earl, Science Facts and Videos, Reference Search- Search an online Dictionary and Encyclopedia

KidsClick! http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/KidsClick!/
A database of over 6400 sites compiled by librarians. KidsClick! was created by a group of librarians at the Ramapo Catskill Library System, as a logical step in addressing concerns about the role of public libraries in guiding their young users to valuable and age appropriate web sites. Searching can be done alphabetically like an encyclopedia, through a hierarchical search of categories or a key word can be typed in for searching.

Dogsledding 101  http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/sleddogs/game.html
What type of dog makes the best sled dog? What commands does a musher use? What equipment is required to race? In Dogsledding 101, you can learn all this and more. Roll over any part of the sled dog team with your mouse. When that portion changes color, just click and you'll see facts about sled dogs, mushers, or the equipment they use. When you're done reading, just click on the animated figure to go back to the main page. Click on another part of the team for more information, until all the figures are colored in.
To play the game, you must have the latest version of the free Flash plug-in, the Flash 4 player. If you have an earlier version of the plug-in, the game may not appear as designed.
