  A.M. Preschool    8:30-11:20 A.M.

Students may begin arriving in classrooms at 8:20.  If students arrive before 8:20 they must report to the cafeteria.  Breakfast is available for .75 cents.

Arrival: Busing is available for all students.  If you prefer to drive your child to school please drop them off at the cafeteria entrance (doors closest to Rt. 101). A teacher on duty will escort them to the cafe' where they will wait until 8:20.

Dismissal: All students will be walked to the front entrance and helped onto appropriate buses at the end of our day.  If you prefer to pick up your child from school please wait in line behind all buses.  When the buses have been loaded we will walk your child to you.

P.M. Preschool    12:20-3:10 P.M.

Arrival: Busing is available for all students. Students may begin arriving in the classroom at 12:10.  Students who are brought to school by bus will be unloaded at the side door and monitored as they enter the school and classrooms.

If you prefer to drive your child to school please park in the parking lot and walk them to the side doors.  A teaching assistant will meet them at the door and escort them into the building.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not pass the buses when red lights are flashing or a stop sign showing.  This is a signal that students are loading or unloading to and from the bus, it is also against the law!

Dismissal: Busing is available for all students.  We escort all students to the appropriate bus at the end of the day.  If you prefer to pick your child up from school they will be brought to the "pick up line".  The pick up line forms at the front to the school.  You will need to wait in the line that forms and proceed to the front entrance doors as directed by the constable on duty.  An adult will bring your child to your car.  Please be cautious of pedestrian traffic during pick up time and remain in your vehicle.

  Snack

The children are invited to eat snack each day.  Snack is set up as a center most days so they may choose to eat snack at any point during center time.  There are two ways your child may take part in snack.  You may send your child with a snack each day or they may choose as snack from the "snack tray".  Notice: We are a peanut aware school.

What is the snack tray?

The snack tray has an assortment of items for students to choose from during snack.  We ask that you assist us in supplying snacks.  Each month we will send home a snack sign up sheet.  We ask that you choose two days that are convenient for you to send a snack to school to share with the class.  The Board of Education has adopted a Wellness Policy at Pomfret Community School.  We are strongly encouraging healthful snack choices in support of this new policy as well as peanut and tree nut free products.

Snack suggestions:

individual fruit cups

applesauce

cheese and crackers

go-gurt

yogurt

pudding

Jell-O

fresh fruit

goldfish or other snack crackers (we can package them into individual servings)

cereal or granola bars

       Milk and Juice

Your child may purchase white or chocolate milk or orange juice for $.25.  We ask that you send a small pouch or bag with money each day.  If you wish you may have enough money for the week in the bag.

Pomfret Community School participates in the CT Child Nutrition Program.  The application for free milk for preschool children is included in the Preschool Handbook: income guidelines and application are in the Appendix.  The application is also used to determine eligibility for reduced tuition for the preschool program.  Please call Maryann Emerson in the school office if you have any questions.

What will my child need for school?

Before your child may begin school:

All registration paperwork must be completed before your child enters school.  We MUST have a recent physical and immunization record on file prior to your child's arrival.  Please contact the office for more information.

The first day of school:

A backpack to carry items to and from school.  Please make sure a pocket file folder will fit inside the backpack easily as each child will be required to transport one to and from school each day.

A change of clothing: shirt, pants, (season appropriate) socks and underwear.  Please label all items with your child's name and place them in a large zipper seal storage bag.  We will be keeping these items at school in case of any accidents or spills. They will need to be updated for each season.

Home School Communication Folder

Each student will be given a "Home School Communication Folder" at the beginning of the school year. The students will learn that "mail" and notes will be in this folder and upon arriving at school will be asked to check it for important notes from home.  At the end of each day students will pack their "mail" to go home.  We ask each student to be responsible for giving you their "mail" each night.

*This folder must go to and from school each day as it is a vital route of communication between home and school.  Please be sure to check this folder each evening for important notes and work your child has done.  If you have notes or items for us please place them in this folder as well.

Weekly Newsletter and Preschool Wish List

Each week I will send home a newsletter.  This newsletter will contain information about what we have done throughout the week, books we have read, suggestions for home as well as important information about upcoming school and community events.

I will also have a preschool wish list on most newsletters.  Items on the wish list are not typically supplied by the school and will be used in classroom projects or during our group snack.  I greatly appreciate any items you are able to donate to the classroom.
