Our Day A Photo Journal 2003-2004 Thank you to the Alvarez family for assisting in creating this page. Arrival
After arriving at school we have jobs to do. We sign up for milk and juice, unpack our "mail" and read a book until all our friends arrive.
Circle: We welcome each other to school with a few songs. We also sing the pledge of allegiance and a patriotic song.
After greeting our friends we talk about our schedule for the day.
We each have a chance to do a special job in our classroom or help with our daily calendar and weather. We need to move a lot in preschool. We get our "wiggles out" while we learn about the lots of fun things. (Reading, math, science and lot of other cool concepts)
We talk about the days of the week and months.
Calendar: We talk about the month and count the days in each month. We learn about birthdays, holidays, special events, field trips and we even spend time practicing patterning. Weather Bear and Graphing the Weather: Each day we will look, listen and feel the weather around us and dress our bear accordingly. The "weather reporter" for the day will tell us about bear and the weather and add the appropriate weather to our monthly weather graph. As a large group we comment on the graph. What kind of weather have we had the most? least? Story: We finish circle with a story. Plan Time: everyone finds their name card at the table and makes a plan for the day. We draw a picture of ourselves, write our names and draw a picture of the center or things we will be playing with or what we would like to do that day. When we are done drawing we tell a teacher where and what we are going to do. Center Time / Teacher Directed Activities: We have many centers to choose from; block center, dramatic play, listening center, puppets, doll house, sensory table, music, games and puzzles, science center, and a new this year a math center. Teachers will often be directing a small group in an activity during centers as well.
