Our Day A Photo Journal Thank you to the Alvarez family for assisting in creating this page (03'-04') Arrival
After arriving at school we have jobs to do. We sign up for milk and juice, unpack our "mail" and read a book or draw a picture until all our friends arrive.
Circle: We pledge allegiance to the flag, welcome each other to school with a few songs and say good morning or afternoon with our classroom microphone.
After greeting our friends we talk about our schedule for the day. We have a picture schedule that helps us see what we need to do.
We choose "helpers" for the day. Students have a chance to do special jobs in our classroom or help with our daily calendar and weather.
We talk about the days of the week, months, seasons and special events.
Calendar: Weather Report and Graphing the Weather: Each day we will look, listen and feel the weather around us and the weather reporter creates a rebus (words and pictures) weather report. Mid year we begin graphing the kinds of weather in a week/month and begin learning how to read a graph. What kind of weather have we had? (most? least? or not at all?) Music and Movement: We need to move a lot in preschool. We get our "wiggles out" with a variety of movement and music activities. Many of our songs are tied to our Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. This is a great way to have fun, move and learn! (Reading, math, science) Story: We finish circle with a story. Center/Choice Time: we review the center choices for the day on our choice board (a board with picture icons) We have many centers to choose from; block center, dramatic play, listening center, doll house, sensory table and an art area with a variety of things including paint, dot markers and crayons. We vary the centers that are available each day. This allows us to direct students and encourage a variety of play. Teacher Directed Activities: Teacher directed activities take place during center time. Small groups of children are invited to the activities that may include a game, project or specific lesson relating to early literacy skills, math skills and science concepts. Snack: on most days snack is offered as a center choice please see snack on parent page Clean up/Second Circle: a bell signals clean up and we all work together to get the room ready for another day. When clean up is complete we meet at circle to talk about what we did during centers. We also have a share time at this circle. One student per night will bring home the "share bag". The share bag can be filled with special items from home that are "safe" to be brought to school. Departure: Students are responsible to pack their "mail" at the end of each day. This entails them placing papers or work into their Home School Folder and placing that into their backpack. Students will spend time outside each day weather permitting. Please make sure to provide weather appropriate outer wear ie. coat, hat, mittens etc. (If the temperature is deemed "unsafe" (too hot/ too cold) by our school nurse and or administration we will not go outside) Dismissal: morning class / afternoon class
